Staff engaged by contractors to work at Mater Dei Hospital should receive the same pay as those employed by the Government, the General Workers’ Union said yesterday.

In a direct appeal to the Prime Minister, the GWU said 300 clerks, security officers and parkers had been promised a salary equivalent to a government employee’s but only 20 had received the pay rise.

Hospital authorities and the health minister had promised the increases, the union said.

It appealed to Dr Gonzi and Health Minister Joe Cassar to rectify the situation.
