A young father desperate to see his children broke down the door to his partner’s home after being stopped by her friends, a court heard yesterday as he was charged in court.

Wayne Borg, 22, from Birżebbuġa, wanted to see his children during an argument with his partner when her friends stopped him and in reaction broke her door, police inspector Kevin Pulis said.

He added that when the police arrived and tried to calm the situation down, he refused and then violently resisted arrest, slightly injuring an officer in the process.

Lawyer Mariella Said told Magistrate Carol Peralta this was a domestic incident between the couple and said that while the charges seemed serious, the incident was minor.

She said that he reacted when stopped from seeing his children.

He pleaded not guilty to slightly injuring his partner, police constable Colin Spiteri and his colleague, violently resisting arrest, and breaching the peace.

Magistrate Peralta granted him bail against a deposit of €300 and personal guarantee of €2,700.
