Some union leaders are at loggerheads with employers over a proposal to place unelected technocratic ministers as part of the country’s executive.

Forum, a group of 11 unions, yesterday criticised the suggestion by the Malta Employers Association, insisting it was “a dangerous proposal”.

The proposal for technocrat ministers was part of a wide-ranging document presented by the MEA to the political parties ahead of the election.

Another controversial idea was a reiteration of a long-held stand to only award the cost-of-living allowance to minimum wage workers. Forum warned such a proposal would push hundreds close to poverty.
