Although some feel the Nationalist administration did not heed their personal problems, the country needs another PN government to keep on the right track, party deputy leader Simon Busuttil yesterday said.

“I am the first one to admit some people feel hurt as we didn’t address their ‘small’ individual problems, which for them might look ‘big’. We could have done better on these things.

“However, voters need to also look at the big picture as the country’s economy will be driven into a wall if Joseph Muscat becomes Prime Minister.”

Speaking to journalists at the end of a tour of business establishments in Sliema, one of the PN’s traditional strongholds, Dr Busuttil addressed his message to traditional party voters who are still undecided on whether to trust the PN again.

“I have held hundreds of meetings in the past months since my election as deputy leader. I listened carefully to all those who came to speak to me and tried to help out where possible... Although I understand some might feel hurt, this is surely not the time to change the government and take a risk with Labour.”

Dr Busuttil pledged that he and his party would give people’s concerns more personal attention even after the election.

Asked why the PN felt the need to issue a press release dissociating itself from social media rumours about Dr Muscat’s personal life, Dr Busuttil said the PN wanted to affirm to the public that what was being attributed to it was untrue.

“This is not our way of doing politics and whatever is private should not be used against political adversaries... Our politics is built on proposals and not gossip.”

Dr Busuttil accused Labour of changing its tune on spring hunting according to its audience and said Dr Muscat was saying one thing to environmentalists and another to hunters.

He warned that the biggest threat of spring hunting was a Labour government. If hunters were allowed to do as they please – as many in the Labour Party were promising – the European Commission would immediately take the issue to court and hunters would lose all that the Government has acquired for them so far.

“We have managed to build a case in favour of restricted spring hunting – permitted only in Malta – and if Labour allows them more they will lose all that was acquired,” he went on to warn.
