The government’s refusal to consult stakeholders was leading to “avoidable administrative blunders” in the health sector, Opposition health spokesman Claudio Grech said yesterday.

Speaking at a meeting with the Medical Association of Malta, Mr Grech said open dialogue with stakeholders could help avoid medical impasses that had been cropping up, including problems with doctor training and a “crisis” at Mater Dei Hospital’s intensive care unit.

Mr Grech said regular meetings with stakeholders would form the basis of the PN’s new political strategy on health.

MAM president Gordon Caruana Dingli welcomed the initiative and said it was always willing to discuss the sector for the good of medical practitioners and patients.
