Italian policemen are seen escorting from police headquarters to jail a suspected mafia member, Daniele D’Agnese (right), on the run since 2009 as he kisses a friend in Naples, yesterday. Anti-Mafia analysts think the kiss could be explained as a code message, possibly meaning “keep the silence”. Italian police arrested more than 140 suspected Mafia members including local politicians for drug trafficking, extortion and fraud in a sweep against the ‘Ndrangheta crime syndicate, yesterday. The operation was manned in Milan, Modena and Turin as well as Reggio Calabria in the southern stronghold of the ‘Ndrangheta – one of the most secretive and feared criminal organisations in the world.
