An elderly woman who invited someone she did not know inside her home for a cup of tea was robbed of €550.

Miriam Caruana, 30, from Valletta, admitted to stealing the money from Teresa Grech’s Żejtun home in September.

She also pleaded guilty to relapsing and committing the crime during the operative term of a suspended sentence.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke granted her bail against a personal guarantee of €1,000 pending a pre-sentencing report.

Police inspectors Johann Fenech and Kevin Pulis prosecuted, while lawyer Martin Fenech appeared for the woman.
