A driver who ran over a woman while overtaking a minibus in St Paul’s Bay four years ago has been fined €2,000.

Francis Cutajar, 45, had dropped off his wife and children and decided to overtake a large number of minibuses that were in front of him.

He said in court that he had actually seen the victim, Elizabeth Mallia, crossing the road but for some reason he still hit her.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit said this was a classic case of a motorist failing to keep a proper lookout and this led to him miscalculating when he overtook the minibus.
