Heavy rain in China has killed at least 87 people and forced thousands from their homes, with nearly 80 others missing.

The floods were caused by heavy rains. Some 50,000 homes collapsed.

The northern province of Hebei was the worst hit.

A breached dyke along the Yangtze inundated an entire industrial park in the region.

Officials said that well over eight and a half million people were affected by the flooding and more than 1.5 million hectares of crops were damaged, costing some 3 billion dollars in losses.

The floods are the latest to hit China after a rain-soaked summer that has now seen the death of more than 200 people.
