The Malta Youth Orchestra will on Friday and Saturday come together with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra to present Youth for Youth, a free concert in collaboration with the Lisa Maria Foundation.

Under the direction of international guest conductor David Watkin, the combined musicians of the MYO and MPO will perform a diverse programme of classical music, including selections from Sergey Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Suite, Dimitri Shostakovich’s Jazz Suite, Mars from Gustav Holst’s The Planets and music from Star Wars.

With the aim of training talented young orchestral musicians and providing the opportunity for them to develop their ambition and aspirations, the MPO made its first public appearance in 2004. Since its inception, the MYO has enjoyed a busy schedule and has made notable appearances during Notte Bianca and at the ŻiguŻajg Festival.

The MYO is delighted to be collaborating with the Lisa Maria Foundation in order to raise awareness of the work that it does in safeguarding children and young people.

Maria Blanco, who is responsible for directing the training programme of the MYO, said that “together with conductor David Watkin, we have chosen some very special repertoire for this concert, which gives the young musicians an opportunity to challenge themselves and develop their skills, while also being a very interesting and enjoyable programme for the public”.

• Youth for Youth takes place at Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Valletta on Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm. Entrance is free.
