The first night shelter for elderly people in Gozo will open for   users next Monday, the Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly, Justyne Caruana, said.

An open day will be held tomorrow.

Dr Caruana made the announcement as she greeted elderly people who took part in a pilgrimage to Ta' Pinu Church organised by the local branch of the Knights of Malta. Mass was celebrated by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech.

The activity was held in collaboration with the Active Aging team of St Vincent de Paule Home.

The night shelter, in Ghajnsielem, is a project held in collaboration with the church. It will take 12 elderly people.
