Preparations for the commissioning of the Oncology Centre are well under way with the new substation started to be tested today, the government said.

It said in a statement this evening the automation system for the new substation would be fully integrated with the existing Power Network Control Centre and automatic emergency generator backup system at Mater Dei Hospital.

The completion of the commissioning process of this automation integration necessitated a number of planned and controlled interruptions of power at Mater Dei Hospital. Critical areas were equipped with uninterrupted power supply so equipment would remain operational.

These tests, the government said, were required to ascertain the proper operation of the new system once the Oncology Centre was fully operational.
