Senior Police Inspector Francis Micallef and PC533 Paul Sheehan were today awarded a certificate of merit for the role they played in the arrest of a 26-year-old hunter who they saw shoot down a protected white stork on Tuesday.

The two officers were off duty when the incident happened in the limits of Qormi and Luqa at around 7.30pm.

The brief ceremony was presided over by Acting Commissioner Ray Zammit in the presence of senior Police Inspector Mario Tonna, the officer in charge of the Administrative Law Enforcement Unit.
