A 37-year-old French man with a Maltese surname - Stéphane Mifsud, last month broken the world record in static apnea by remaining submerged for 10 minutes and four seconds in a swimming pool in La Crau Var, France.

With his feat, Mr Mifsud, a professional free diver, broke the world record of nine minutes and eight seconds that was set by a German free diver in May.
