The LOL stand-up comedy show is back again for its 20th Special Edition 2013, being held at the Dolmen Resort Hotel, Qawra on Friday and Saturday.
This edition boasts one of Malta’s favourite compères, Andre Vincent, who is back for his seventh gig. With his head swelling and his tongue tripping one-liners, he established himself as one of the best stand-up comedians in the UK. His individual style has taken him across the scope of the performance medium: a Saturday night show on Channel 4, three sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Festival, countless radio shows and presenter of two award-nominated television programmes.
The special guest act, Sean Hughes, is an award-winning Irish comic turned bestselling writer whom the British Independent newspaper has compared to the likes of Irvine Welsh, James Kelman and Will Self.
Best known as a stand-up comedian and television star, Hughes has won acclaim with his trademark black comedy. Hughes, a native of Dublin, is the youngest winner of the Perrier Award for Comedy at the Edinburgh Festival; he has gone on to critically acclaimed performances in television and film.
A regular on both television and radio, Hughes is an excellent headliner and his dry Irish sense of humour and razor-sharp wit mean that he is always well-received by audiences
The other two acts are Paul Thorne and Wayne Deakin.
Thorne is one of Britain’s most established and sought-after stand-ups. As well as performing at all of the UK’s major comedy venues and festivals, he can be seen weekly at London’s Comedy Store as a member of The Cutting Edge team of comedians who perform topical material based on the week’s news.
Deakin is regular headliner at all Australian comedy venues and also tours constantly throughout the US and Canada. Currently based in London, he works the Comedy Store, Jongleurs and Glee Clubs as well as touring Asia, the Middle East and the Isle of Man.
