Mizzi hits back at PM's remark

Labour EP candidate Marlene Mizzi insisted today that she wanted to serve in the European Parliament in the interests of the Maltese people, not the government.

In a statement, she noted that the Prime Minister when interviewed during Bondiplus yesterday, claimed that the PL MEPs would be going to Brussels to hinder the government. When challenged, he singled her out.

Mrs Mizzi said the duty of MEPs was to represent the people, and not to act as if they were government appointees.

It appeared that Dr Gonzi was angered by what she wrote recently in The Times. But she stood by what she wrote.

In her article, Mrs Mizzi had said:

"My decision to run for the European parliamentary elections in June was prompted by the belief I can help stop the rot. We all can. We suffer the government's rampant intolerance, its inefficiency, its waste of taxpayer's funds because we are a decent people who are shamelessly used and abused the minute the elections are over. Ironically the party that lead the country into the EU has become the least respectful of EU ethics, of the decency, the temperance, the honesty and the moderation the EU insists politicians adopt as their creed.

A strong Labour team at the European parliament can hamper our government from treating people as though they were chattel. We shall name and shame the government each time it lets our country down. We shall convince politicians in Europe this is a government gone wrong. We want Malta to honor its EU obligations in the same way the Maltese must begin to enjoy the rights and benefits that are rightful theirs- as EU citizens."

It was Gonzipn with instructions from the EU petty dictators that wanted to destroy Sea Malta to give its business to a foreigner.

@ Vincent Azzopardi
Sea Malta was dessimated by none other than Austin Gatt and sold it for pennies.

Try pulling the other leg Mrs Mizzi. PLEASE answer " DID YOU VOTE YES OR NO IN THE REFERENDUM". And with a record like yours (i.e. SEA MALTA) who would trust you.
HALLINA TRID. Better the devil i know. i shall vote for the P.N. boys.

Congrats Marlene. This is the way we want our MEP's to be, not serviants of the EU but true dedencers of our national interest. We want representives who safeguard us from the tirany, dicatatorship of this Government, a Government which is, as Marlene rightly said, the least respectful, the least democractic and the least capable in the whole EU.

It's not the words that matter but sustainable proposals which you will bring forward which will surely effect us Maltese!!!

Marlene, please, give us more of your superb articles. Congratulations

Marco Cremona is not even Labour. Marlene Mizzi is not anti-EU now, perhaps. And the EU has ethics and not the law of the jungle tan-nemus u l-makku. But Marlene can hamper our government at the European Government because Muscat, Grech and Attard-Montalto couldn't. So we still have rot, intolerance and inefficiency something we never had long ago when the MLP was in government.
Marco Cremona (on 29/4/09)
Good for you Marlene. I do not have have to tell you how to fight the PNs nasty character assassination (sometimes subtle, sometimes not so) campaigns.

I am not a politician (indeed I am not even Labour !) but still regularly have to bear the brunt of vicious attacks originating from certain people who simply cannot stand the fact that a learned citizen may have an opinion (about incineration, about water/wastewater management) that differs from theirs... and that the citizen uses his/her democratic right to express this opinion.

But the PN is not homogeneous...... there are some decent people within the PN who support my work and who can see beyond the blinkers of partisan politics. So there is hope.

Marlene, I may not share your political views, but you have my full admiration for standing up to the powers that be. That, in Malta, is a very unique trait.

Well said Marlene,All this goverment has in mind,is to dictate us from every aspect of life.
That way he can do whatever he likes.Lets not give him that chance.Vote for PL mep to make the pressure on the PN to listen to the peoples needs.
Lewis Ellul (on 28/4/09)
Well said, Ms Mizzi. That's exactly how the great majority of the Maltese think about this Government. Malta and the Maltese deserve much much better and we need persons like you who will give us a voice whenever we're arrogantly trampled upon. Prosit!
Anthony Castillo (on 28/4/09)
When I read what you said I would'nt believe what I was reading regarding the intolerance from the government. Where was you during all the years of the MLP OR LP government may be you was chairman of one of the government intraprise like the SEA MALTA and we all know where it ends up.This is therefor what I could say tolerance by being appointed in these positions.
N.GRECH (on 28/4/09)
A very simple question for Ms. Mizzi.
Did Ms. Mizzi vote "yes" or "no" at the EU referendum.
Can she answer this simple question or is she blocked by her party to do so.
What MALTA needs are credible and reliable.
