Christian Zammit
Partit Laburista

On June 6 Christian Zammit is contesting the MEP elections on the Labour Party ticket.

Dr Zammit is a twenty-six year old Gozitan Notary Public. He commenced primary school in Xaghra, Gozo, and furthered his studies at the Sacred Heart Minor Seminary in Victoria, Gozo, and the Centre for Further Studies in the said town. In the year 2000, Dr Zammit proceeded to the University of Malta in Msida, in order to study law. Six years later, he graduated as Doctor of Laws, and obtained the notarial warrant. Today he practices as a Notary Public in Victoria, Gozo.

With regards to his political activity, he took the plunge when, way back in May 2003, along with a number of other Gozitan youths, he re-established a Gozitan Youth Forum branch. Six months later he was appointed as Dr Joe Mifsud's assistant in the International Secretariat of the Malta Labour Party, a post which he occupied for a year and a half.

In March 2007, he contested the Xaghra Local Council election; an election in which the Labour Party obtained its first-ever majority in Xaghra, and Dr Zammit became Xaghra's Vice-Mayor, a post he still occupies.

He has practiced football since his childhood, winning various Gozitan trophies with Xaghra United, and forming part of the Gozitan Minors selection. Dr Zammit is nowadays a member of the Gozitan Football Association's Board of Appeal.

In December 2008, he decided to contest the European Parliament Elections to be held this June. Apart from being the youngest Maltese candidate contesting these elections, he is also the first-ever Gozitan contesting these elections on the Labour Party ticket.
