Birgu by Christmas Lights draws crowds

The historic city of Vittoriosa took on a whole new appearance over the weekend with the Birgu by Christmas Lights festival, hosted by the local council.

The narrow streets were lit only by candle light as choirs sang in the churches and traditional instruments were played in street corners. The nativity scene was also recreated in the streets. Entertainment and food were provided at the main square.

The festival, held for the second year, attracted thousands of people.

Birgu by Christmas Lights draws crowds but pushes me away... The surrounding main roads of Birgu, the only place left in the vicinity to park, were also switched off. Last near due to insufficient lighting I was involved in a traffic accident. It is very irresponsible by the authorities to switch off road lights, for any reason especially if these streets are busy - in this case to try and find a parking to attend the Birgu fest. Also little or no police were present to direct traffic in view of creating car free streets in Birgu.
