Bicanter adds Damilano wines to its portfolio

Bicanter, importers and distributors of quality wines, have added the prestigious Piedmont winery Damilano to their growing portfolio of wineries they represent in Malta. Damilano is one of the historic wineries of Barolo in the heart of the Langhe region, making a range of wines including the highly regarded Barolo Cannubi.

"It is a great honour for Bicanter to represent the range of Damilano wines in Malta which fits into our growing portfolio of Italian wines. This will be further supplemented by a new range of quality wines from Tuscany in the coming weeks.

"The Damilano range of wines will be enjoyed not only by wine collectors who like to collect wines that can be drunk after years maturing in their cellars but also by the growing number of wine enthusiasts who are looking for something new," John Farrugia, director of Bicanter, said.

Damilano's top-of-the-range wine Barolo Cannubi is a Doc-wine which is produced from Nebbiolo grapes in the zone of Cannubi. The age of the vines is between 30 and 50 years, making it an exceptional wine with great personality, and an ageing potential that makes it so special. The winery only produces 7,000 bottles.

Together with the Barolo Cannubi, Bicanter will also distribute the Barolo Cinquevigne, both of which are in the 2004 exceptional vintage, the Barbera d'Alba, the Langhe Arneis and the Barolo Chinato.

The origins of the Damilano winery date back to over a century ago, when Giuseppe Borgono, the great-grandfather of the current owners, started to grow and make wines from his own grapes. This tradition has been kept up by Giacomo Damilano, the founder's son-in-law, together with his children until it passed on to his four grandchildren who manage their forefathers' land today. The wines produced are renowned for their style and the estate is widely appreciated thanks to the strictness and passion that goes into the production of these wines.

Damilano's vineyards are situated in the most famous areas of the Lange region, Cannubi, Liste, Fassati and Brunate, almost entirely cultivated with Nebbiolo and to a lesser extent with Dolcetto and Barbera varietals. The best possible cultivation of these vines is assured by the professional experience and competence of one of the top agronomy experts in Italy, Giampiero Romana.
