Maltese soldiers give their salute in a ceremony yesterday at the Freedom Monument in Vittoriosa to commemorate Freedom Day, the national holiday remembering the day Malta stopped being a British military base in 1979. The army formed a Guard of Honour and President George Abela and Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi laid flowers at the monument.
