Manchester Utd have been crowned English Champions after a pulsating finale. This is their 17th title (the 10th in the last 16 years).

There had been many rumours that Wigan might let off Man U lightly, given that Wigan’s manager is a former Manchester United player. That was not the case.

And Chelsea didn’t win their match against Bolton and so the Red Devils, won the league with a points and goals advantage.

Round one over, now Chelsea and Man Utd fight each other for the title of European Champions in Moscow.

In an earlier posting, I referred to the much dreaded yet envied manager’s role. Ferguson is clearly a manager who will be remembered as one of the best ever. This acclaim comes from the number of trophies he has won and above all from his loyalty to Man. Utd. In his early years at the helm he managed to transform the team and take it back to winning ways, and he has since managed to regenerate it and renew the motivation of its players.

Pazza Inter… Pazzo Milan... Pazza Milano…

Mancini went on record saying that this Scudetto would be the most enjoyable to be won by Inter. He thought that Inter would beat Siena and make the league theirs… that was also what Inter’s President Moratti thought, and that’s what the Inter supporters thought.

The only variable was the fact that there were 90 minutes to play and that Inter had to face Siena who last week beat Juventus. And today we see that Inter are not the Italian Champions as yet and that Roma are breathing down the Nerazzurri’s neck hoping for yet another slip next week.

By the time the season ends on Sunday, Inter might end up losing what was already theirs. That will be one of the most incredible ways of letting off a title which has been theirs for so long.

Milan’s euphoria following last Sunday week’s victory against Inter came to an abrupt end on Sunday afternoon. Milan copied Inter’s craziness and let off the much acclaimed 4th place in the table, which would have ensured the team’s participation in next year’s Champions League.

Their performance on Sunday bore no comparison to their performance against Inter, and one hopes that this won’t mean the end of the European dream for a team which has Europe in its DNA.

Last summer, Inter and Milan supporters were taunting each other about what was best, being the Champions of Italy or being European Champions. Now it seems that La Madonnina, which overlooks the Piazza Duomo (scene of most celebrations in Milan) has had enough and has decided that this year could well see no team from Milan celebrating anything.
