May is the month of many things. Where it comes to sport, May is the month when football titles are decided. This weekend may see at least titles assigned.

In Malta, Valletta will win the championship crown if they beat Floriana.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich seem set to get the arithmetic confirmation for their own coronations.

Inter and Olympique Lyonnais can also secure their title victories, provided that they win their respective games.

The other five leagues which might be decided this weekend are the Czech, Israeli, Romanian, Georgian and Turkish ones.

Football and FDI

The English Premier League clubs are dominating European club football at a time when the national team has failed to qualify for the European Championships. Why? Could it be because one, of the few things that is English about the Premier League is the country where it is held? An influx of foreign investors has transformed many English clubs into money making machines and definitely contributed towards making them among the strongest on the continent. This phenomenon may soon extend to Italy, with some 15,000 plus supporters begging the Sensi family to stop resisting the sale of their stake in A.S. Roma to foreign investor Soros.

Bravo

The Malta Motorsport Federation (MMF) has been recognised by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) as the national ruling body for motorsport in Malta. Approval was granted by resolution during the FIA annual conference held in Paris. Congratulations to all the enthusiasts who really put their heart into local motor racing and make the best of the limited resources available to them.

Their frequent, justified, plea is to have a proper track for motor racing. I wonder what the situation is at the moment is, however I am sure that a high standard track in Malta will contribute to our brand position abroad.

Enjoy your sport weekend…
