Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil this evening expressed solidarity with the people of Marsascala after the waste recycling plant fire which produces a column of black toxic smoke.

Dr Busuttil urged the authorities to ensure that the people's health came first.

He said, however, that what happened today was no coincidence but the result of gross incompetence by people who for the past four years were interested in making money from corruption rather than doing what was most important.

Dr Busuttil was speaking in Gzira, where he promised that the Nationalist Party would not take the 10th district for granted.

He also revealed how a financial practitioner had told him how foreign investors had put off potential investment of €40m in Malta, preferring to see how Malta would vote on June 3.

Should Malta not clear its name, they would go elsewhere.

Dr Busuttil said the government was taking 'desperate' measures to stay in power, including lies.

At the Education Ministry, there had been a 'shower of gifts' where part-timers were given full-time jobs, those with definite contracts were given indefinite contracts and practically everyone was given a promotion. A PN government would respect what people were given because it was their right, he said, and he was confident people would not be tricked in this way.
