For the ninth consecutive year, Italian pianist Michelangelo Carbonara will be giving a recital in Gozo. This time, as on some previous occasions, Carbonara will also perform some works with his cellist wife Kyung Mi Lee.

This year’s exciting programme begins with solo piano pieces. These are Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, three of Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances, Chopin’s Scherzo in B minor Op. 20 and Busoni’s Sonatina N. 6 Fantasia da Camera Super Carmen. The piano and cello duos will begin with Chopin’s Introduction and Polonaise Brillante, Op.3, Tchaikovsky’s Pezzo Capriccioso Op. 62 and finish off with Piazzolla’s Le Grand Tango.

Carbonara’s repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary as well as jazz. Apart from being a brilliant performer he is also a composer and makes arrangements, in fact, he will also perform his own interpretation of some well-known themes from opera during the evening.

Born in Naples, Carbonara has performed widely in Europe, North America and Asia and is very active as a solo performer, in chamber music as well as with orchestras. His recitals in Gozo are always much looked forward to and he generously performs in aid of the Friends of the Sick and the Elderly in Gozo (www.fsegozo.com) and Happy Moments in Kenya (www.happymomentskenya.org) which helps the rural community of Makuyu in that country.

The recital will take place the Kempinski San Lawrenz Hotel in Gozo at 6.30pm. After the recital, for a further fee, a three-course dinner will be served at the hotel’s trattoria. During the dinner, one can meet Carbonara and Kyung Mi.  For more information contact Sonja Sinclair Stevenson at 60, Trux Street, Għarb, on sonjassl@go.net.mt or 2156 2074.
