Myles Beerman has caught the attention of all Maltese football enthusiasts these last few weeks as the U-21 international has succeeded in establishing himself in the first team of Scottish Premiership giants Rangers.

Injuries to key senior players left Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha with no other option but to turn to the 18-year-old wing-back who was handed his full debut at the away match to Kilmarnock on April 5.

Beerman produced a sound, polished display during the goalless draw at Rugby Park.

The contribution of the former Manchester City academy player left the Gers’ boss with a straightforward decision. He kept faith with Beerman who continued to thrive as Rangers went on to secure back-to-back victories over Aberdeen 3-0 and Partick Thistle 2-0 in the league.

Beerman’s performance against Partick Thistle also drew the plaudits of the media who named him in the Scottish Premiership Best XI.

“I’m really enjoying every minute of it,” Beerman, who started his career at Mosta FC before joining Floriana and then Manchester City, told Times of Malta yesterday.

“Playing for a big club like Rangers represents everything I have been working for so far in my career. The manager has shown great faith in me since he came over at Rangers and that really helped me.

“He instills a lot of confidence in me and he always tells me to go out and enjoy myself and I always try and give everything I have.

“The only thing I can do now is to continue giving my all during training and matches and make sure I’m ready each time the manager needs me.”

Beerman feels that he has already won his biggest challenge of his career by managing to play for a renowned club like Rangers.

“My biggest task was getting to where I am today,” Beerman said.

“I worked hard and went through a lot of sacrifices to reach my goal so I just need to keep things going. It’s amazing to be part of Rangers with such great history and amazing fans.”

Next up for Beerman is a match every player in Scotland would dream to be part of when on Sunday the Gers take on arch rivals and newly-crowned champions Celtic in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park.

Yesterday, Caixinha dropped a major hint that Beerman could keep his place for the cup tie after telling reporters that he intends to retain the Malta youngster and 20-year-old David Bates in his line-up.

“I think if they (Beerman and Bates) want to become Rangers players they need to adapt to this type of scenarios,” Caixinha was quoted as saying.

“So far they have done very well, the team has done very well so if they need to play or if they need to start that game I have no problems with that.”

Beerman is relishing the prospect of taking the field for the Glaswegian derby this weekend but said he is trying not to let the occasion ruin his mental preparation.

“Facing Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final will be the biggest match I have ever been involved in, no doubt about that,” he told Times of Malta.

“But at the same time I’m trying not get carried away too much by the occasion.

“At the end of the day it’s a game of football and I just need to focus and concentrate all week.

“It’s up to the manager to decide if I will be involved or not but if I do play a part it will be something really special.”
