Championship side Birmingham City appointed Harry Redknapp as manager until the end of the season, as a replacement for Gianfranco Zola.

Redknapp, who at 70 becomes the oldest manager in English football, guided Tottenham to Champions League qualification in the 2009-10 season.

His last foray into management was a two-match spell in charge of the Jordan national team in March last year.

“I got fed up sitting around doing nothing. I will come and live up here until the end of the season,” Redknapp said.

Terry is the greatest – Lampard

Frank Lampard has hailed John Terry as the Premier League’s greatest ever defender after the club announced their captain will leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

“The last man standing of an incredible era for @chelseafc,” Lampard wrote on his instagram account. “What a pleasure to play with the greatest defender in the @premierleague history.

“He set standards for everyone, whether it was demanding excellence in training, fighting for every win or respecting how fortunate we were to play for such a great club.”

Paulinho keen to stay in China

Paulinho has denied speculation linking him to a move away from the Chinese Super League after his recent impressive performances for Brazil and Guangzhou Evergrande.

The 28-year-old, who joined Evergrande from Tottenham in 2015, signed an extension to his initial contract in January.

“These transfer rumours are normal in the football industry,” he told Chinese media. “My agent must have received inquiries from some European clubs.

“But I like where I am and I have been having good time with my team mates and coaches. I’d like to stay here to win more titles.”

Hughton targeting the title

Brighton’s first-ever promotion to the Premier League was guaranteed after Huddersfield drew 1-1 at Derby on Monday evening and now boss Chris Hughton wants the title.

The Seagulls’ squad had celebrated on the pitch at full-time after their 2-1 win against Wigan at the Amex Stadium effectively sealed a return to English football’s top flight for the first time in 34 years.

Hughton said: “It’s a massive motivation for this group of lads. One thing we spoke about afterwards is it’s a wonderful achievement, particularly after last season, to get promotion.

“But what these lads want to do is they want to be able to say they won the division and went up as champions.”

Wenger demands perfection

Arsene Wenger has admitted Arsenal have to win each of their remaining seven Premier League games if they are to secure a 20th successive top-four finish.

The Gunners hauled themselves to within seven points of fourth-placed Manchester City with a 2-1 victory at Middlesbrough.

Wenger said: “For us, the clarity is there - we have to win every game to have a chance to get in the top four, starting tonight.

“I think it will make the team a bit more serene. You could see that one some occasions, we were a bit over-cautious tonight. Hopefully that will give us a bit more confidence.”

Young unsure of United future

Ashley Young has said he has had no indication whether he has a future at Manchester United, despite his return to favour under Jose Mourinho seeing him captain the team to victory over Chelsea.

Young rejected a lucrative transfer to Chinese club Shandong Luneng in January.

“I have another year left on my contract and a one-year option after that,” Young told reporters. “So if there is anything there to be discussed, you would have to ask the manager.

“I am looking to play as many games as I can between now and the end of the season. That is what I am concentrating on now. That is the main focus for me and then we will see what happens.”
