The two semi-finals of the Tazza l-Kbira championship, reserved for class Premier trotters, headlined yesterday’s 14th meeting of the season at the Marsa Racetrack.

In first semi-final, favourite Service Secret (Andrew Farrugia) was the fastest horse in the early stages, opening a small lead from Tanguy De Nappes (Ronald Cassar) and Tacticien Jiel (Julian Farrugia).

With a lap to go, Service Secret was reeled in by Jaguar Broline (Noel Baldacchino). However, a keen tussle between three trotters developed in the final straight with Tanguy De Nappes grabbing its second win in a row ahead of Jaguar Broline and Service Secret.

Tonio Du Vivier (Charles Camilleri), Donald Duck Tooma (Caillin Borg) and Uhal Berven (Rodney Gatt) also progressed to thefinal.

Careful Victory (Rodney Gatt) had to go all out in the last few metres of the second class Premier semi-final to outsmart Italian Overtaker By Sib (Marco Refalo) and cruise to its first win at Marsa.

Uccello Jet (Mario Fenech), Vasterbo Paradise (Carl Caruana), Supercool Langkjaer (Anton Pace) and favourite Midummer King (Noel Baldacchino) also progressed.

Another meeting at Marsa will be held on Sunday, starting at 1.30pm.
