In the last match from match-day 19 of the Gozo FA Division One last week, Xewkija Tigers just managed to beat SK Victoria Wanderers 1-0 to go one point clear ahead of Nadur Youngsters with only two matches left.

In all probability, the championship will be decided by a last-day clash between Xewkija and Nadur scheduled for April 30.

Xewkija were coming from two negative outcomes before their match against the Wanderers following defeat in their previous league match and elimination from the GFA Cup at quarter-finals stage.

Xewkija saw more of the ball but failed to find a way past second-bottom Wanderers who had their fate already sealed by results from other matches.

On 16 minutes Xewkija’s Thiago Melo dos Santos saw his ‘goal’ disallowed for an infringement.

The Tigers attacked in numbers but had to wait until the 66th minute to put the ball into the Wanderers’ net from a Claudio Frances free-kick that surprised keeper Matthew Towns.

In another match, Oratory Youths beat Xagħra United 1-0 to get the three points they were looking for to stave off the relegation threat.

At the end of the season, SK Victoria Wanderers will have to figure in a play-off to retain their status for another year.

Everton Felipe Da Silva Santos scored the goal that mattered for the Youths from a corner taken by Bartomeu Perello Palou on 50 minutes.

Xagħra, without a win this season, tried hard to avoid defeat but Antonio Laskov saw his effort from a free-kick stopped by the keeper.

Division Two

Promotion seekers Għarb Rangers and St Lawrence Spurs set up a decider for the top position and automatic promotion to the top flight after the latest rounds of matches from the championship.

Leaders Għarb beat Qala Saints 2-0 but could only managed a 3-3 draw against Munxar Falcons.

The Spurs trounced Żebbuġ Rovers 6-1 and now they can take sole leadership as they have a match in hand (vs St Lawrence on April 21) before the direct clash on April 29.
