Most people have heard about the importance of exercise and the need to exercise regularly. However, some people claim that exercise doesn’t seem to be doing much to them. Everyone responds to exercise differently. If one had to take a sample of people who perform the same exercise routine, some will appear to have changed physiologically and others would seem to have not changed at all. This subset of people are left to feel powerless and some opt to stop exercising entirely.

Research seems to point out that these so-called responders are only a myth. A research study in Journal Physiology pointed out that while not everyone may respond to the same form of exercise, some may respond to different workouts. The study involved healthy adults  comprising of responders and non-responders of exercise. In some cases, the subjects in the study responded to one hour of exercise, though there were people who didn’t.

In such cases, the subjects were asked to increase the amount of time exercising. All the subjects in the study improved their maximum power and cardiovascular fitness. In today’s society where everyone seems to be so hectic with commitments and even the minimum required dosage of exercise seems impossible, exercise needs to be part of a weekly routine.

There are many benefits of exercise from improved health, to changes in mood and stress reduction.

This leads us to the conclusion, that if our bodies are not responding to training, it means that the dosage of workouts needs to be increased until our bodies respond, without driving ourselves to injury.
