Abela Junior College student Abigail Callus is one of 28 students, one from each EU Member State, who won the 2016-2017 edition of Juvenes Translatores, a translation contest for schools organised by the European Commission to reward the best young translators in the EU.

She received her prize from EU Budget and Human Resources Commissioner Günther Oettinger at an award ceremony in Brussels.

Ms Callus was congratulated by University rector Prof. Alfred Vella, Junior College principal Paul Xuereb and Dr Claudine Borg, who coordinates the college’s participation in the competition. This is the fifth time that one of Dr Borg’s students have won the contest.

Three other college students were awarded a certificate for outstanding translations in the competition.
