During Sports Day at St Thomas More College Secondary, Żejtun, the students and teachers’ Ekoskola committees and the school council prepared healthy packed lunches for the school community, in line with the school’s involvement of the We Eat Responsibly project, which focuses on both health benefits and environmental-friendly practices.

The packed lunch consisted of a Maltese ftira filled with tuna, seasonal vegetables and fresh herbs, fresh fruit smoothies using seasonal products and a glass of squeezed orange juice freshly cut from the school’s garden. Products used to serve the packed lunch were either made of paper or collected back for reuse and recycling.

The fruit and vegetable skins used were separated for compost, and the plastic containers reused in a school gardening project.
