Twenty-five turtle dove birds which trapped in a large illegal cage yesterday were released by the Gozo police.

The cage was discovered by the Committee Against Bird Slaughter close to the village of Għarb.

The trap contained 25 live turtle doves which were subsequently confiscated and released into the wild by officers of the police. Enforcement officers from the Wild Birds Regulations Unit also assisted in the operation.

In a statement, CABS praised the authorities for their quick reaction in this case.

The film also contains footage of a turtle dove shot in Safi and found dying by a CABS team this morning.

Turtle doves may not be shot or trapped in spring.
