Thousands are expected to make the 30km overnight pilgrimage from Mellieħa to Senglea tonight as part of the 14th Good Friday walk in aid of Puttinu Cares.

Over 10,000 people participated last year, raising more than €100,000 for the Puttinu Cares cancer support group. And this year, organisers say they are expecting an even bigger number of pilgrims.  Mellieħa resident Joseph Vella and his son-in-law Glenn began the yearly event 14 years ago, with the walk growing in popularity with each passing year.

Walkers begin the roughly four-hour trek across Malta at 2am sharp, starting from Misrah iz-Zjara tal-Papa, just outside the
Sanctuary of Our Lady in Mellieħa. The walk ends at Senglea's Parish Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, with those who complete the walk receiving a certificate of participation.

Water stations and refreshments will be available along the walk, with free transport prior to the walk from Senglea, at around midnight, and after the walk to Mellieħa. Minibuses and coaches will be available along the route to pick up
those who decide to stop and these will be taken to Senglea. Medical staff will also be on standby in case of any emergencies.

Participants are asked to fork out a €10 donation to take part in the pilgrimage. For further information and transport booking please call 9999 1800.
