Immigration Officers will henceforth be known as Border Control Officers, and they are to benefit from better pay thanks to an agreement signed with the GWU and the UĦM, the government announced today.

The agreement affects 50 officers based at the airport.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said this was the first improvement in their working conditions in 20 years.

There will be two categories of officers, based on their experience.

The main role of the officers is to check the documents of arriving passengers to ensure that they have a right to enter Malta.
