Basketball: Russell Westbrook (picture) enjoyed yet another magical night in a magical campaign as he broke the NBA’s single-season record for triple-doubles and then hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give Oklahoma City Thunder victory over Denver Nuggets. Westbrook collected 50 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists to break Oscar Robertson’s 56-year-old record with his 42nd triple-double of the season. And the last of those points came at the death as the Thunder snatched a 106-105 victory – eliminating Denver from play-off contention in the process.

Tennis: Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova claimed her fourth Monterrey Open crown as she kept world number one Angelique Kerber waiting for her first title of 2017. Pavlyuchenkova prevailed 6-4 2-6 6-1 in Sunday’s final, a re-match of her last title here when she beat Kerber 4-6 6-2 6-4 in the 2013 final. Rugby Union: The Japan Rugby Football Union yesterday welcomed the Sunwolves’ switch to Super Rugby’s Australian conference next season, saying the club will benefit from shorter flights and less disruptive changes in time zones. Cricket: Liam Plunkett has agreed a 12-month contract extension to stay at Yorkshire until the end of next year. Four-time County Championship winner Plunkett is set for another big summer with club and country, and at the age of 31 has signed up for another season at least at Headingley. After his successful one-day international tour of the West Indies last month, Plunkett is set for a central role as England bid to win just their second global tournament in the mid-summer Champions Trophy.

Boxing: Luke Campbell will take on former champion Darleys Perez later this month in an eliminator for the number one spot to fight WBA lightweight beltholder Jorge Linares. The London 2012 gold medallist faces his stiffest test to date as a professional on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s world heavyweight title showdown with Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley on April 29. Perez held the WBA strap until he was dethroned in November 2015 by Anthony Crolla, who in turn went on to lose two unanimous decisions to Linares.
