San Andrea Early and Middle School, L-Imselliet, recently held an open day centred on the theme ‘Learning Trails’.
In the Nursery section, some young pupils showed the beauty they had discovered in ‘The jungle, the Sahara Desert, under the sea and the rainforest’.
Others explored trails through the magical fairy tales of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Bear Hunt, The Three Little Pigs and Hansel and Gretel.
The Grade 1 pupils’ learning trail was about ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and featured workshops and fun science activities, using pictures of the different stages of a butterfly.
The Grade 2s took a hands-on approach and related their learning to everyday life by going out of the classroom into the outdoors.
The theme of the Grade 3s was ‘Little Explorers’; they explored the Limestone Heritage, the Mellieħa countryside and Noah’s Ark Dog Sanctuary.
The Grade 4 pupils’ trail focused on new discoveries they had made this year in Mathematics, Science, English and Maltese.
The Grade 5 pupils visited Mdina and then recreated images of Vilhena Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral and Palazzo Falson at school.
The theme of the Grade 6 pupils’ activities was ‘Shells, Ships and Shields’ during which they traced Malta’s Punic, Carthaginian and Roman eras.
The Grade 7 pupils took part in four workshops on World War II – a live Victory Kitchen, children’s games which were played during the war, an Axis vs Allies puzzle and an ICT interactive wartime story.
Throughout the day, students, parents and guests took part in a treasure hunt around the school.
