Q: Some days ago, I bought a top-loading washing machine from a local retailer which, as agreed, was delivered to me by the seller. Unfortunately, I could not find the instructions manual but I managed to download a soft copy on my phone. When I tested it without clothes inside, it made a lot of noise. I then tried it with clothes in it but unfortunately when the wash was ready, the clothes were completely covered in bits of paper. I then realised that the instructions booklet was inside the washing machine underneath the basket.

I immediately contacted the seller and informed him what happened. The salesperson I spoke to understood the situation and told me to call their customer care to send me a technician to remove the instructions manual from the washing machine.

I am now worried that this incident might have damaged the machine and would like to know if I can ask the seller to replace the washing machine?

A: Since the seller did not inform you about the manual inside the washing machine and you could not have known that it was underneath the basket, then any damages the washing machine might have incurred must be rectified by the trader.

Hence, in this case you first need to verify if the washing machine has actually been damaged by this incident. If it has been damaged, then you may ask the seller to replace it.
