The University of Malta and ST Microelectronics’ Malta plant have entered into a two-year collaboration agreement to conduct joint work on projects with the aim of maximizing manufacturing efficiency based on scientific knowledge.
The University will provide STMicroelectronics its knowledge and expertise and use its tools and instrumentation and its team of highly-qualified professionals for the benefit of the projects.
On its part STMicroelectronics will provide and share manufacturing data on yields, efficiency and processes and use its manufacturing environment to promote scientific research.
This common collaboration interest may include scientific research in the fields of chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology.
One of the fundamental goals is to develop and apply a global project of Big Data analytics on back-end manufacturing to improve yield, cost and quality and to set up a Big Data analytics team.
Big Data is a priority project of ST’s back-end manufacturing and technology that is being done in collaboration with the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the University’s Faculty of ICT. The agreement was signed by University rector Alfred Vella and by Fabio Gualandris, ST executive vice president back-end manufacturing and technology and chairman of the ST Malta plant.
