San Ġiljan scored their second valid victory on day three of the BOV Winter League yesterday when they defeated Valletta 12-6. In the subsequent match Exiles and Sirens shared the points and ten goals.

Five goals in the latter stages of the third quarter avoided any possible embarrassment for San Ġiljan and set them on the way to a clear cut victory over Valletta in the opening match.

After scoring three early goals from as many possessions the Winter League title holders were pegged back by an initially resolute City team who had Michael Cordina back in the fray until he was red-carded midway in the third session.

Until then Valletta had looked organised at the back.

They managed to hold their own when they shared eight goals with the decorated San Ġiljan team who had Andreas Galea absent.

However, a pep talk by coach Marko Orlovic before ends were changed proved decisive as Dino Zammit struck four goals, with two each coming from Matthew Zammit, Ben Plumpton and Joseph Galea.

In the end it was another comfortable victory for the Saints whose form when they get going suggests that they are the finished product in terms of physical and match fitness ahead of the main season.

In the other match, Sirens featured in a second consecutive draw when they shared ten goals with Exiles.

For Dorian Pisani’s team it was a productive performance after running Neptunes so close in their first match only to lose in the dying seconds.

It was balanced all the way, with Sirens forging ahead three times before Exiles drew level thanks mostly to three goals by Michele Stellini. For the northerners the emerging Jacob Sciberras scored a brace including the last equaliser in the final part of the game.

Exiles went two goals ahead in the space of 94 second early in the third session. However, Sirens reacted to salvage their pride.
