As your plane approaches our island on a beautiful, sunny Sunday, you can have a fantastic view of masses of concrete blocks across the water from the walls of Valletta. An aerial glimpse of the rest of the island will reveal even more concrete and stone wonders dotted with awesome tall cranes of every colour, lots of them, especially the bigger version. Have your pick: red, green, yellow; it’s so exciting!

Of course, there are some green parts here and there on the island but these are not so visible as they seem to be crammed with the islanders and their families as they try to find some breathing space and escape the maze of shadowy concrete blocks of all sizes all around them.

You can also see big craters in the ground. They’re going to build towers; real nice big ones.

It’s so nice to have a Dubai in the Mediterranean. What else do we need? Pity the islanders are trying to leave this little island construction site, what with the gridlocked traffic and pollution, and, of course, the tourists who will leave in droves as they wonder what they came here for in the first place.

The Azure Window is not the only gem we have lost, by far.

Finally, on landing, be sure to go to the Strand, in Sliema. You can have a close view of eight gigantic cranes oozing style and beauty all the way to Gżira. It’s breathtaking. I heard that Manoel Island is earmarked to enhance this aesthetic beauty with more wonderful construction.

Dear Lord, help us all and save us from this madness and vulgar greed of those who don’t care about anything else except for power and more and more money.
