Several thousand demonstrators have gathered in Berlin's historic Gendarmenmarkt public square today to demonstrate for a unified Europe and to urge France to vote against the leader of the eurosceptic and anti-immigrant National Front (FN) party and French presidential candidate, Marine Le Pen, in it upcoming national elections.

Many were holding placards of 'The Pulse of Europe' movement, a grassroots initiative started in Frankfurt with the aim to keep Europe united.

Demonstrators have been gathering for the non-partisan rallies on Sundays in the German city over recent months.

Demonstrators in Berlin voiced their pro-EU sentiments with EU flags, blue balloons and face paint.

In glorious sunshine about 4,000 people also took to the streets of Frankfurt, demonstrating for peace, unity, and against xenophobia.
