Hibernians boosted their hopes of winning this year’s Premier League title when they brushed aside rivals Balzan 3-1 at the National Stadium.

The Paolites took the lead on 33 minutes when Clayton Failla latched onto Jackson Lima’s pass to stab the ball past Balzan goalkeeper Ivan Janjusevic.

Balzan soon hit back and they drew level on the stroke of half-time when Ryan Fenech’s delivery from a corner was deflected into the path of Alfred Effiong who headed home.

On the restart, Hibs coach Mark Miller sent on Johann Bezzina for the injured Rodolfo Soares and the new entrant left an instant mark after putting his side ahead on 55 minutes.

Jurgen Degabriele fed Bezzina who hit a curling drive past a diving Janjusevic.

Hibs were now in command and they sealed the points with a third goal on 77 minutes.

Jorginho seized possession in midfield and hit a firm drive that gave no chance to the Balzan goalkeeper.

Marcelo Dias, of Hibernians was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
