Five Maltese studying telecommunications and information technology engineering at the University of Malta have just completed a study trip in China, funded by Huawei.
The Maltese joined a group of Italian students to take part in the Seeds for the Future 2017 study trip which aims at promoting excellence among students in the ICT sector, focusing not only on educational aspects but also on concrete application in the industrial world.
Seeds for the Future is Huawei’s global Corporate Social Responsibility flagship programme. Through this programme, available in 96 countries, Huawei selects top college students for a study trip in China.
During the students’ two weeks agenda in China, Huawei organized a series of sessions including training days at the company’s headquarters in Shenzhen, with a focus on the latest innovations in the field of networks (4.5G and 5G) and the most significant trends such as Cloud, IoT, Industry 4.0 Smart & Safe City.
By 2020, it is estimated that in Europe about 800,000 jobs in the ICT sector will remain vacant because of the lack of candidates with relevant expertise. At present, 40 per cent of European companies are having difficulty in finding professional profiles with the required skills.
