Updated 2.15pm - Added mayor's statement

A €3.5 million investment will see the resurfacing of roads from Buġibba promenade all the way to Qawra.

Speaking during a news conference, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi and Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis said the works will start just after Easter and are expected to be completed before the summer.

Works will be carried out mostly at night to minimise inconvenience.

The investment was made possible through eco-contribution funds.

Mayor Graziella Galea backed the project, saying she had sent "many emails" to Dr Zammit Lewis and Transport Minister Joe Mizzi urging them to resurface the promenade and other roads in Buġibba, Qawra and St Paul's Bay.

"It's a shame I only got to know of this project through the media," she added in a statement issued to the press. "I now hope that the necessary coordination with the local council happens, so that works can be carried out properly and with the minimal inconvenience to everyone."
