Updated 5.50pm - Added police update

A man and a youth emerged unscathed today after their 16-foot boat capsized off the Mellieħa coastline this afternoon.

The 39-year-old Mosta resident and 16-year-old young man were enjoying the fine weather when their Speedcraft Fletcher hit a barrel and began taking on water at around 3.30pm.

They immediately set off emergency flares and were rescued by members of another vessel, returning to shore around the Fekruna Bay area.

Police and emergency services initially could not track the rescue vehicle down, but confirmed at 5.40pm that everyone on board was accounted for.

Neither of the two sustained any injuries, police said.
