Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar has hit out at a development application that would raise the height of some apartment blocks at Marsalforn to 11-12 floors, saying this would transform the village into a high-rise area.

"The FAR high rise policy clearly states that tall buildings go against Gozo’s character and should not even be considered. This application for amended plans would create a heavy-density development that would completely change the fabric of the small village," the FAA said.

The development borders Ta’ Barda Road.

It said the developers have not submitted the required photomontages to assess the impact on the landscape, nor studied the social and environmental impacts that such a development would have on its surroundings.

The NGO said the case officer's report is "rife with misrepresentations in order to justify this abusive application," showing a Planning Authority that is "operating without a conscience, morality or regard for the truth."

It called for the application to be turned down.
