A tower of black smoke dominated the Valletta skyline this afternoon after an electric-power city cab caught fire by Quarry Wharf.

Smoke from the flaming cab engulfed the area around Victoria Gate and Barbara Bastions and could be seen from across the Grand Harbour. Times of Malta readers in Sliema could also see rising smoke.

A Civil Protection Department spokesman said the smoke was caused by a car catching fire. The fire damaged a nearby car but firefighters quickly put out the flames and nobody was injured in the incident.
