In the feature on the Azure Window (March 18), this newspaper published a photograph of a watercolour painting showing the Dwejra tower, done in 1824. This was taken by a contributor from the watercolour in my collection but no acknowledgement was made. The copyright of that photograph belongs to me and no one can make use of it without my permission and due acknowledgement.

As a watercolour, that painting is obviously unique. It was stated in the article that the aquarelle was illustrated by Brigadier Alfred Samut-Tagliaferro (not Sammut) in his book of 1993 on the coastal fortifications of Gozo and Comino. There the illustration was in black and white and my friend, Alfie, duly acknowledged on page xiii of his book that he was indebted to me for giving him for publication the photograph of the Dwejra painting.

The painting published in the feature on this newspaper was taken by a supplier on March 15 last from my original painting. It is in sepia, as published, and it forms part of a set of Maltese views in an album signed A.B., dated 1824. It turned up at a London dealer in 1977.

I have been unable to identify the artist who signed his watercolour with those initials. Hopefully, one fine day, someone will be able to uncover his name.
