A recruitment drive to beef up the police force has been announced.

Applications will be accepted at the police headquarters in Floriana until April 17, the Home Affairs Ministry said this morning.

The selection process for the applications will be based on a physical test, an interview and a medical exam.

Following the selection process, recruits will undertake an intensive training programme at the academy.

Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said the drive would reinforce resources in different police stations.

In a statement, the Home Affairs Ministry said in their drive to the fight against criminality, the police are preserving peace and public order, preventing offences and promoting the observance of the law.
