Recently, one of the leading economists, John Grech, referred to the innovative as against conventional leadership of Simon Busuttil. He is rendering an invaluable service to this country. His reaction to the db Group text message is indicative of the correctness that will mark his administration.

This innovative style will provide the tool with which corruption – today one of the major concerns of the people – will be combated to make way for a just distribution of wealth for the benefit of all, particularly the vulnerable.

Equally, his style will provide a shield for threats to democracy. The Nationalist Party has always been entrusted with the role of defending democracy.

Today, we are again witnessing an attempt by the government to intimidate the media including an attack on the efficient, young journalist Mario Frendo and the politically-motivated axing of highly popular programmes like Salvu Mallia’s Madwarna and Mark Micallef’s and Herman Grech’s TimesTalk.

This country badly needs the PN’s vision. This is not only incorporated in the numerous valid proposals made from the Opposition but is evident in concrete action, namely the setting up of a commission to make proposals on the financing of political parties and politicians.

This brings to mind the controversial salary raise to the Cabinet under Lawrence Gonzi.

The election date is getting closer and with it the possibility of a tranquil and peaceful quality of life.

Our vote – wisely used – has the power to make normality a reality again in our dear country.
